Unit Helpers

Unit helpers play a very important role in the Girlguide movement. Without them many units would not be in existence. Unit helpers need no formal experience or training in the Girlguide movement. Having a unit helper at a unit meeting allows Rainbows to have 4 additional children, Brownies 6 children and Guides an additional 6 children. For those wishing to help but are unable to attend every unit meeting we have rota helpers. By sharing the meetings between a group of people you will only need to help at two or three meetings a term. We are very flexible in our approach; if you would like to participate in any way please contact us or apply online

A Unit Helper... Is a woman or man aged between her/his 18th and 65th Birthdays. You do not need not be a member of Girlguiding UK. You must be willing to support the aims and objectives of The Guide Association and to abide by its policy and rules. You do not have to wear uniform.

A Unit Helper carries out specific duties assigned by the Unit Guider and is not responsible for planning. A Female Unit Helper may:
Make the Guide Promise
Wear a yellow badge tab

Warranted Guiders

Warranted Guiders are the life blood of the Girlguide movement. Finding new guiders is very hard. We now have older guides (age 18+) who are now taking up the role of warranted guiders but there is always opportunities for parents to become warranted guiders (after training) and helping out at an existing unit or even starting your own unit.

What is expected of a Guider/Assistant Guider?

A Guider has certain responsibilities. As part of a team and after appropriate training she is expected to:

Participate in the Girlguiding UK Leadership Qualification
Run a regular meeting for the Unit, with a balanced and varied programme of activities
Keep records of activities
Keep financial records for the Unit
Provide a safe environment for the girls and others working with the Unit
Liaise with and take a responsibility for the personal development of Young Leaders working with the Unit
Attend District meetings
Make or renew the Promise
These responsibilities must be carried out whilst working within the rules and guidelines set out in the Guiding Manual, including the Association’s Safe from Harm Policy.

If you would like to discuss what is involved in becoming a warranted guider please contact your local District Commissioner.
